his is indeed a joyous occasion. Bishop
Fernando Arêas Rifan, of Campos Brazil, will be arriving in Vancouver on 27/03/03
and leaving on 06/04/03. While he is in Vancouver he will be in residence
at the Holy Rosary Cathedral and Archbishop Adam Exner has given permission
for Bishop Rifan to say a Pontifical High Mass at the Holy Rosary Cathedral
at 14:00 hours on Saturday 29th March. This will be followed by
a dinner at 17:00 hours at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church at which Bishop Rifan
will be the guest speaker. Bishop Rifan will also perform confirmations for
the traditional community. The price of dinner tickets is $40 Canadian. On
Sunday 30th Mass will be at 12:30 at Holy Spirit Church if it looks
like the turnout will be too large then the venue may be changed to Our Lady
of Fatima Church. On Monday 31st there will be Confirmations at
19:30 at Our Lady of Fatima.
Some
comment on the historical significance is warranted. The 18th Jan./02
was an historic occasion a day which will forever live in memory. On this
day in the Cathedral of the diocese of Campos occurred the juridical recognition
of the ‘Priests of Tradition’. These
were Priests who stood with Bishop de Castro Mayer in retaining the traditional
liturgy of the Church. For a traditionalist no more need be said. On that day the Church established, at the diocesan
level, in the diocese of Campos, Brazil, a “Personal Apostolic Administration”
which goes by the name of “Saint
John Mary Vianney”.
