HISTORIC MILESTONES FOR TRADITIONAL CATHOLICS IN VANCOUVER

• 1970’s:
  • Late 70’s possibly early 80’s travelling Priests such as Fr. Yves Normandin.
• 1980 – 1989:
  • Fr. Neilson at St. Pius X & Msgr. Newman at St. Michael;
• 1989:
  • 23rd. May, Abp. James F. Carney, sent us a letter informing us that he had completed arrangements with Reverend Joseph Favotto, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in New Westminister to celebrate Mass according to the 1962 Missal;
  • 4^th June, the first Traditional Mass, authorised by Archbishop Carney, was held at Holy Spirit Parish;
  • 13^th July VTMS formally receives incorporation documents incorporating it as a Charity under the laws of British Columbia.
• 1995:
  • 21^st October, VTMS was accepted, as a member of the Una Voce International, at the XII Statutory General Assembly held in Rome. This means that as of this date Canada was officially back in the Federation and the VTMS became their official representatives in Canada;
• 1998:
  • Archbishop Adam Exner, OMI preached the sermon at Holy Spirit.
  • 5^th July, Fr. Richard Creurer of FSSP, one of the Seminarians we supported, celebrated his first Mass at Holy Spirit and Bp. Monroe then Mgr. gave the sermon;
• 1999:
  • TLA went on a pilgrimage to Chartres;
  • Fr. Devillers celebrated an Easter Triduum our very first;
  • 26^th July & again on 1^st November, VTMS formally petitions Abp. Exner for establishment of Quasi Parish, Sacraments in traditional Rite, Priest from FSSP etc.
  • 9^th October, Fr. Richard Trezza celebrated Mass and was the guest speaker at our 10^th AGM;
  • 7^th December, we met with Abp. Exner and all our requests were granted;
• 2000:
  • Fr. Devillers again celebrates an Easter Triduum for our community;
  • 15^th September, Fr. Ryan takes up permanent residence as our Parish Priest.
• 2001:
  • 7^th January, Divine Mercy Quasi Parish legally established by Abp. Adam Exner;
  • 13^th August, for the first time in the history of the Vancouver Traditional Mass Community, the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered in the Tridentine Rite.
• 2003:
  • 27^th March to 2^nd April, Bp. Rifan celebrates Pontifical High Mass at Holy Rosary Cathedral;
• 2004:
  • 25^th January, Divine Mercy Parish starts a second Sunday Mass in Aldergrove;
  • 27^th November, Deacon Joseph Orlowski, another of our Seminarians was ordained at Holy Rosary Cathedral by Abp. Exner;
• 2008:
  • 30^th March, Our Aldergrove Sunday Mass is moving as of Divine Mercy Sunday to Holy Family.
  • 24^th, April, Confirmation at Holy Family Church,
  • 1^st. July, Divine Mercy Parish is moving permanently and Divine Mercy Parish becomes Holy Family Parish
• 2010:
  • 22^nd. May, Fr. Garrick Huang, one of our semunarians is ordained to the priesthood at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary.
  • 13^th June, Fr. Garrick Huang celebrates his first mass at Holy Family.
  • 12^th Aug, Archbishop Miller granted permission to establish the Canonical House "Domus Divinae Misericordiae" for the FSSP in the archdiocese of Vancouver at Holy Family.
